Area V
History Education
This major is available through the Dothan and Troy Campuses.
AREA I-V Recommendations
AREA I:
A grade of "C" or higher is required in Composition I and II at Troy University. "D" grades will not transfer.
AREA II:
When selecting courses from Areas II and IV, please note that at least one 6sh sequence in either Literature (Area II) or History (Area IV) must be completed.
AREA III:
A grade of "C" or higher is required in the Math course chosen. "D" grades will not transfer.
AREA IV:
Students attending Troy University are required to take a World Regional Geography course. Students attending a community college are strongly encouraged to take GEO 100 (World Regional Geography) to meet these requirements.
Students attending Troy University are required to complete a U.S. History sequence and a World History or Western Civilization sequence. Students attending a community college are strongly encouraged to complete HIS 101/102 (Western Civ I/II) or HIS 121/122 (World History I/II) in Area IV to meet this requirement. Then, complete HIS 201/202 (U.S. History I/II) in Area V.
When selecting courses from Areas II and IV, please note that at least one 6sh sequence in either Literature (Area II) or History (Area IV) must be completed.
AREA V:
Students attending Troy University and wishing to major in History Education must complete a six-hour course sequence in American History and a six-hour course sequence in either Western Civilization or World History.
- ORI 101 (Orientation to College) (1 SH)
- CIS 146 (Microcomputer Applications) (3 SH)
- GEO 100 (World Regional Geography) (3 SH) - if not taken in Area IV
- Social/Behavioral Science course from Area IV (3 SH) – if GEO 100 was completed for Area IV
- HIS 201 (U.S. History I) (3 SH) - if not taken in Area IV
- HIS 202 (U.S. History II) (3 SH) - if not taken in Area IV
Troy University Baccalaureate Degrees
The student seeking a baccalaureate degree must meet the following credit hour requirements:
- A minimum of 120 SH
- At least 50 percent of the degree program must be traditional academic credit
- No more than 25 percent of the degree program may be earned using portfolio based credit.
- At least 25 percent of the degree program must be completed with Troy University.
- Twelve (12) semester hours of work in each major field must be completed in residence
at Troy University.
