Biology/Biomedical Sciences
This major is available through the Troy Campus only.
AREA I-V Recommendations
AREA I:
A grade of "C" or higher is required in Composition I and II at Troy University. "D"
grades will not transfer.
AREA II:
When selecting courses from Areas II and IV, please note that at least one 6sh sequence
in either Literature (Area II) or History (Area IV) must be completed.
AREA III:
A grade of "C" or higher is required in the Math course chosen. "D" grades will not transfer.
Students attending Troy University are required to take Calculus I for their math
course. Students attending a community college are strongly encouraged to take MTH
125(Calculus I) to meet this requirement.
AREA IV:
When selecting courses from Areas II and IV, please note that at least one 6sh sequence in either Literature (Area II) or History (Area IV) must be completed.
NOTE: While TROY will accept the credits as stated in Area IV of this guide, TROY does NOT require PSY 200 and will accept PSY 210 in transfer. TROY requires at least one history course (if the Literature sequence is chosen) and the remaining 9sh of Area IV may be completed with any history, social and/or behavioral science course listed on this guide or approved for Area IV transfers in general.
AREA V:
The remaining 19 SH in Area V can be obtained at the community college by taking 19 SH from the following:
- BIO 103 (Principles of Biology I)(4 SH)
- BIO 104(Principles of Biology II)(4 SH)
- CHM 221 (Organic Chemistry I)(4 SH)
- CHM 222 (Organic Chemistry II)(4 SH)
- CIS 146 (Microcomputer Applications)(3 SH)
- MTH 125 (Calculus I)(4 SH) – if not taken in AREA III
- MTH 265 (Elementary Statistics)(3SH)
- Physics series of PHY 201/202(Gen Physics I/II)(8 SH) or PHY 213/214(Gen Physics w/Calculus I/II)(8 SH)
- ORI 101 (Orientation to College)(1 SH)
Troy University Baccalaureate Degrees
The student seeking a baccalaureate degree must meet the following credit hour requirements:
- A minimum of 120 SH
- At least 50 percent of the degree program must be traditional academic credit.
- No more than 25 percent of the degree program may be earned using portfolio based
credit.
- At least 25 percent of the degree program must be completed with Troy University.
- Twelve (12) semester hours of work in each major field must be completed in residence
at Troy University.
