Organizational Sketch: UCV Camp Bartow (no. 1591) founded in Dothan, Houston County, Alabama, on August 29, 1903. Quoting from the preamble to the camp's constitution, its purpose was "to collect and preserve the facts connected with the history of the Confederate States, and illustrative of the career of Confederate statesmen and soldiers; to perpetuate the memory of Confederate heroes and heroism; to assist all meritorious Confederate soldiers and sailors in all honorable ways; to aid their families when they shall need assistance; to confirm and advance the friendship begun in days of hardship and danger, and to promote cordiality in intercourse with our comrades, the United Confederate Veterans of Houston County, Ala., and adjoining counties, do ordain this Constitution."
Scope / Content Note: Documents some of the activities of UCV Camp Bartow of Dothan. Includes a ledger book and loose pages documenting dues collections and other Camp financial transactions, a small body of correspondence, and ephemera.
Provenance: Original provenance uncertain. Given to Wiregrass Archives by Houston-Love Memorial Library when it moved into its new building in 2014.
Processing Notes: All loose records were originally stuffed into the ledger.
