Biographical Sketch: Ocie and Edgar Forrester lived in Avon, AL. Ocie began her scrapbooks in 1932 and included world and local news (mostly about World War II) as well as marriage, birth and death announcements for the Forrester family. Ocie was a member of Cowarts Baptist Church.
Scope / Content: Three scrapbooks put together by the aunt of Ms. Kathy Forehand Mathis, ca. 1927-1969 (bulk 1935-1945), measuring ca. 12.5” x 14.5” each. Two bound by laces, one spiral bound. Scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings and magazine articles about World War II and current events, letters, ration coupons, poems, Valentine's Day cards, postcards, photographs and newspaper clippings about the Forrester family - wedding announcements, birth announcements, obituaries, and birth and graduation announcement cards.
Provenance: Scrapbooks were compiled by Ocie & Edgar Forrester. They were saved by Kathy Forehand Mathis, a grand-niece, who gave them to Ray Hutto in 2014. Mr. Hutto donated them to the Wiregrass Archives in 2015.
