Biographical Sketch:  Carole Lee served as the charter president and founding board member for the Dothan Landmarks Foundation, Inc., owner/operator of Landmark Park.  She has remained a strong advocate for the Foundation over the years, and delivered a lecture on the Park's history at its 30th anniversary dinner, January 22, 2007.  Lee's son, Jon, became a Dothan Landmark Foundation board member in 2006.

Note:  Documents the early history of Dothan Landmark Park.  Contains the following Files:

1.  Text of talk about the history of Dothan Landmark Park, 1-22/24-2007

2.  Newspaper Clippings from Dothan Eagle, 1977-1986

3.  Early membership solicitation pamphlet and early brochure, ca. 1977

4.  Poster advertising Dixie Market Days, Oct. 22 [1979] (OS folder)

Provenance:  Received from Mrs. Lee at end of 30th Anniversary of Landmark Park dinner, 1-22-07.  She sent a more thorough version of her talk via e-mail on 1-24-07.

Processing Notes:  Newspaper clippings were all photocopied.  Originals returned to Mrs. Lee.

Note:  33-page file concerning the genealogy of the William and Alice Powell Newton Family who moved from Henry County to Dothan in 1889.  William Newton kept a well-known store in town.  He died in an automobile accident in 1922; she lived until 1939.  Formats include photographs, correspondence, newspaper clippings, family tree forms, handwritten notes, and computer-generated information printed then scanned.

Provenance:  Mrs. Lee assembled the documents from her family collection, scanned them into a PDF, then sent the file to William Holman, Exec. Dir. of Landmark Park in Dothan.  He forwarded that file to the The Wiregrass Archives.  Dr. Olliff burned the file to CD on 02-19-2009.
