Area V

General Science/Education

This major is available through the Dothan and Troy Campuses.

 

AREA I-V Recommendations:

AREA I:

A grade of "C" or higher is required in Composition I and II at Troy University.  "D" grades will not transfer.

 

AREA II:

When selecting courses from Areas II and IV, please note that at least one 6sh sequence in either Literature (Area II) or History (Area IV) must be completed.

 

AREA III:

A grade of "C" or higher is required in the Math course chosen.  "D" grades will not transfer.

Students attending Troy University are required to take a general studies math course in Calculus I.  Students attending a community college are strongly encouraged to take MTH 125 (Calculus I) to meet this requirement.

Students attending Troy University are NOT required to complete Principles of Biology II.  Students attending a community college are strongly encouraged to take CHM 111 (College Chemistry I) to meet this second science requirement. (If taken BIO 104 will only count as free elective credit.)

 

AREA IV:

When selecting courses from Areas II and IV, please note that at least one 6sh sequence in either Literature (Area II) or History (Area IV) must be completed.

 

AREA V:

The 23-30 SH in Area V can be obtained at the community college by taking 23-30 SH from the following:

  • ORI 101 (Orientation to College) (1 SH)
  • CIS 146 (Microcomputer Applications) (3 SH)
  • CHM 111 (College Chemistry I) (4 SH) (if not taken in Area III)
  • CHM 112 (College Chemistry II) (4 SH)
  • PHS 111 (Physical Science I) (4 SH)
  • PHY 213 (General Physics with Calculus I) (4 SH)
  • PHY 214 (General Physics with Calculus II) (4 SH)
  • MTH 265 (Elementary Statistics) (3 SH)
  • BIO 201 (Human Anatomy & Physiology I) (4 SH)

 

Troy University Baccalaureate Degrees

The student seeking a baccalaureate degree must meet the following credit hour requirements:

  1. A minimum of 120 SH
  2. At least 50 percent of the degree program must be traditional academic credit.
  3. No more than 25 percent of the degree program may be earned using portfolio based credit.
  4. At least 25 percent of the degree program must be completed with Troy University.
  5. Twelve (12) semester hours of work in each major field must be completed in residence at Troy University.
