Biology Education
This major is available through the Dothan and Troy Campuses.
AREA I-V Recommendations
AREA I:
A grade of "C" or higher is required in Composition I and II at Troy University.
"D" grades will not transfer.
AREA II:
When selecting courses from Areas II and IV, please note that at least one 6sh sequence
in either Literature (Area II) or History (Area IV) must be completed.
AREA III:
A grade of "C" or higher is required in the Math course chosen. "D" grades will not
transfer.
Students attending Troy University are required to take Calculus I for their math
course. Students attending a community college are strongly encouraged to take MTH
125(Calculus I) to meet this requirement.
AREA IV:
When selecting courses from Areas II and IV, please note that at least one 6sh sequence
in either Literature (Area II) or History (Area IV) must be completed.
AREA V:
NOTE: TROY does not recommend you take the additional 4sh from Areas II-IV as listed
in Area V on the transfer guide. If taken, the credits will only count as free electives
at TROY.
The remaining 23-27 SH in Area V can be obtained at the community college by taking 23-27 SH from the following:
- ORI 101 (Orientation to College)(1 SH)
- BIO 104 (Principles of Biology II)(4SH) If not taken in Area III
- BIO 201 (Human Anatomy & Physiology I)(4 SH)
- CHM 111 (College Chemistry I)(4SH)
- CHM 112 (College Chemistry II)(4SH)
- CHM 221 (Organic Chemistry I) (4 SH)
- CHM 222 (Organic Chemistry II) (4 SH)
- CIS 146 (Microcomputer Applications)(3 SH)
- MTH 265 (Elementary Statistics)(3 SH)
- Physics series of PHY 201/202(Gen Physics I/II)(8 SH) or PHY 213/214(Gen Physics w/Calculus I/II)(8 SH)
Troy University Baccalaureate Degrees
The student seeking a baccalaureate degree must meet the following credit hour requirements:
- A minimum of 120 SH
- At least 50 percent of the degree program must be traditional academic credit.
- No more than 25 percent of the degree program may be earned using portfolio based
credit.
- At least 25 percent of the degree program must be completed with Troy University.
- Twelve (12) semester hours of work in each major field must be completed in residence
at Troy University.
