Pre-Veterinary Medicine Program

 

Minimal Requirements for Auburn University Veterinary School Entrance

  • Principles of Biology with lab and Organismal Biology with lab (8 hours)
  • General Chemistry with lab (8 hours)
  • Organic Chemistry  with lab (8 hours)
  • Biochemistry with lab (4 hours)
  • General Physics  with lab(8 hours)
  • Science Electives (minimum of 2 of the following)
    • Comparative Anatomy, Embryology, Genetics, Histology, Immunology, Mammalian Physiology, Microbiology, Physics II, Parasitology, Reproductive Physiology
  • *Mathematics -Pre-Calculus-Trigonometry or Higher
  • *English Composition - 6 hours
  • Literature - 3 hours
  • Fine Arts - 3 hours
  • Humanities / Fine Art Elective - 6 hours
    • Humanities include literature, philosophy, religious studies, speech and foreign languages
    • Fine Arts include art, music, theater, and dance with an emphasis on history and appreciation rather than performance
  • *History- 3 hours
  • *Social and Behavioral Science Electives - 9 hours
    • 6-hour sequence is required in either literature or history
    • Social/ behavioral sciences include history, anthropology, economics, geography, political science, psychology, and sociology
  • Completion of the equivalent of 150 hours of veterinary professional experience or veterinary research

*With a B.S. Degree, the above courses can be waived. There is a 6 year rule for courses in organic chemistry and physics.

Minimal Requirements for Tuskegee University Veterinary School Entrance

  • 200 clinical contact hours with a licensed veterinary
  • Medical Terminology- 1 hour
  • English Composition- 6 hours
  • Humanities and Social Studies ( History, Economics, Psychology, Sociology)-6 hours
  • Liberal Arts (Arts, Any Language, Music, and others)- 6 hours
  • Mathematics (Algebra, Calculus, Statistics, Trigonometry)- 6 hours
  • Advanced Biology Courses (3000 level & above to include Anatomy, Biology, Immunology, Microbiology, Physiology, or Zoology) - 9 hours
  • Biochemistry with lab - 4 hours
  • General Chemistry with lab - 4 hours
  • Organic Chemistry with lab - 4 hours
  • Physics I and Physics II with labs - 8 hours
  • Introduction to Animal Science - 3 hours
  • Physical Education (if no B. S. degree)- 2 hours
  • Applicants who have matriculated at non-US colleges and universities must comply with the above requirements and with those listed in the foreign applicants in the Tuskegee University Bulletin. These include evaluation of their transcripts by an independent agency and an appropriate test in English (TOEFL and/or TWE).
