Biographical Sketch: Dr. Anne Lorance assigned her Spring 1995 students to conduct oral history interviews with Wiregrass residents. She was a Prof. of Education at Troy State University Dothan. She earned her B.A., 1963, Southern Methodist; M.S.E., 1970, Central Arkansas; Ed.D, 1991, Memphis State. She was an adjunct professor and research associate at Memphis State University and a principal at Woodruff Primary School in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was invited by the Arkansas Society to attend the inaugural activities of President Clinton. She joined TSUD's faculty in Jan. 1993 and left ca. 2003.
Scope / Content: Most of the products concern rural life in south Alabama during the 20th century. Contains releases from interviewers and narrators, transcripts, notes, correspondence and standard and mini sound cassette tapes of 36 oral history interviews concerning early lives of rural people from South Alabama. Some oral histories are incomplete.
Organization: Organized into 2 series by format: 1. Transcriptions / paperwork. 2. Audio Cassettes. Each series arranged alphabetically by narrators' last names.
Processing Note: The tape ‘Rural Life in Southeast Alabama' has three narrators. Cross reference files were included under the name of each narrator.
Provenance: Lorance gave the project's work product to Dothan Landmarks Foundation, Inc. ca. 1995. DLF transferred it to WA ca. 2002. WA postponed accessioning until mid-2010 in order to make decisions about missing releases. Collection transferred from subgroup of Dothan Landmarks Foundation, Inc., RG 030 to independent record group.
